SAN DIEGO – SDSU’s women’s volleyball team dropped to the Boise State Broncos in three sets (25-19, 25-23, 25-21) on Thursday evening. The Broncos (14-9, 6-4 Pac-12) ended the Aztecs’ (13-7, 8-2 Pac-12) 8-game winning streak and handed SDSU their first sweep since Aug. 29.
As the regular season comes to a close, the Aztecs are looking to finish strong and claim the No. 1 spot in the Pac-12 standings over Colorado State, while the Broncos sit at No. 4.
Boise State went into Thursday’s matchup with a vengeance after SDSU beat them earlier this month on their home court. The Broncos started the match strong and led by as many as seven points in the first set. The Aztecs’ defense struggled against Boise State’s strong hitters and dropped the first set 25-19.

The Broncos maintained their momentum throughout the beginning of the second set, but SDSU fought back to tie the set at 22 apiece. Although both teams had 18 second-set kills, Boise State had fewer attack errors (1) than SDSU (5), securing the Broncos’ 2-set lead going into the break.
SDSU stayed within two midway through the third set, down 15-13. Boise State had a 5-1 run to put them up 20-14. Both teams went back-and-forth to finish the set, but the Broncos took the match victory with a 25-21 set three win.
Despite the loss, SDSU finished with more digs than Boise State (56-52), and outside hitter Ella Schabort led the match in kills with 15. Sydney Dreves from Boise State had 14, and six Broncos had five or more kills. The Aztecs will look to bounce back on Saturday afternoon.
