SAN DIEGO - The Hoopers Collective is San Diego’s home for women’s basketball, a nonprofit creating opportunities for women to stay connected to the game and to one another. Through open runs, skill labs, and social events, the organization has built a space where players can compete, develop their game, meet other hoopers and find community both on and off the court.
At The Hoopers Collective social event at Mavericks on Saturday, that feeling of having a home in the game came through in conversations with both the players and founder, who spoke about the collective with a strong sense of family and belonging.
It became the inspiration behind this art adaption, “Home Court.” Bringing separate moments from the day together into one layered composition while elements of the scoreboard and court connect them within the same shared space.
As The Hoopers Collective continues creating opportunities around women’s basketball in San Diego, the piece also looks toward a community that is still growing.
