  • Elvina Kalieva defeated Elizabeth Mandlik in the finals to win the San Diego Open tennis Tournament on Sunday at Barnes Tennis Center in a hard fought match, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1. Kalieva defeated the No. 1 seed as well as former worldwide No. 13 Jennifer Brady to get to the final.

UC San Diego

UC San Diego basketball stays red hot with pair of Big West wins, remains atop conference standings

UCSD Basketball

  • The Tritons edged UC Santa Barbara 52–49 on Thursday on the road. They followed that with an impressive 82–67 statement home win over CSUN on Saturday. The two wins pushed UCSD to 15–6 overall and 10–1 in league play as the team continues its push toward a Big West title.

Takeaway: UC San Diego is playing its best basketball at the right time as they continue to strengthen their hold on first place in the Big West.

UCSD Water Polo

  • UC San Diego women’s water polo faced a challenging stretch at the Triton Invitational, going 1–3 against top-15 competition. The Tritons opened strong on Friday with a 12–11 win over No. 14 UC Davis, but dropped three later in the weekend.

Takeaway: The Tritons proved they can battle with elite competition, but late-game execution will be key after dropping three tight matchups to top-15 opponents at the Triton Invitational.

San Diego State

Takeaway: The Aztecs extended their win streak to 13 to remain in firm control of the Mountain West. They are finding different ways to win.

SDSU Tennis

  • San Diego State’s women’s tennis team swept their cross-town rival UC San Diego for the second match win of the season.

University of San Diego

Resilient efforts highlight a tough week for USD’s Women’s Sports

  • The USD women's basketball team faced a close loss against Portland (59-64) on Saturday; however, freshman Olivia Owens scored a career-high 27 points.

Takeaway: USD women’s basketball showed competitiveness and individual growth despite two road losses, and will be back with home energy on Thursday.

USD Tennis

  • USD competed in its most challenging match yet against No. 2 Texas A&M with impressive performances from doubles and singles players. The team remained resilient despite the loss (2-4).

Point Loma Nazarene

  • The Sea Lions defeated Chaminade on Thursday to extend their win streak to seven and remain unbeaten at home. Read more here.

  • Point Loma lost to Fresno Pacific on Saturday, 68-65, dropping to second place in the PacWest conference and ending their win streak.

Takeaway: PLNU showed that they have the strengths needed to take the PacWest title, with the championship tournament starting early March.

San Diego Mojo Pro Volleyball

  • The Mojo fell in a five-set thriller to the Omaha Supernovas, 21-25, 28-26, 25-17, 20-25, 21-19, Friday night at CHI Health Center. The Mojo could not convert on two match points and fended off four before the Supernovas closed it out. They lost in four sets to the Atlanta Vibe on Sunday.

Takeaway: Same as last week. If they can figure out how to win the big points, the Mojo will be a force.
