The last time the San Diego Wave FC faced off against the North Carolina Courage, the two sides lit up the scoreboard with seven combined goals.
This time around, it was a completely different story.
In a game that stretched into stoppage time, neither team was able to find the back of the net. After 92 minutes of play, the match ended in a 0-0 draw, a result that reflected San Diego’s recent offensive struggles.

The Wave entered the match coming off a similarly frustrating scoreless draw against the Washington Spirit, and with a long international break in between, head coach Jonas Eidevall and his staff were hopeful that the extended time off would give the squad a chance to regroup and recharge. But despite the rest and preparation, the same issues resurfaced.
Statistically, San Diego was in control from the opening whistle. They dictated the pace, dominated time of possession and outshot the Courage 18 to 6. They looked composed and aggressive in transition, applying consistent pressure on North Carolina’s defense throughout. But despite their statistical dominance, the story remained the same. They just couldn’t find the back of the net.
Even Delphine Cascarino, fresh off an impressive run with France in the UEFA Women’s European Championship in which she notched multiple goals in international play, struggled to make an offensive impact. The Wave’s attacking efforts looked promising but ultimately fell short once again.

The closest San Diego came to getting on the scoreboard was in the 85th minute, when Makenzy Robbe fired a shot that ricocheted off the crossbar, just inches away from putting the Wave on the board for the first time since June 13th.
The mounting frustration over the continued lack of results was evident postgame, with Eidevall stating plainly, “We’re not happy we’re not winning again.”
Now in the final stretch of the season, the Wave—with 7 wins, 4 draws, and 3 losses—will be eager to rediscover their scoring touch and finish strong. They'll get another chance to do so when they return home to Snapdragon Stadium to take on Angel City FC on August 9 at 7:00 pm.
