SAN DIEGO — On Sunday evening, the San Diego Mojo beat the Omaha Supernovas in a 5-set thriller. San Diego won their last two home games but dropped their last match to the Ignite in Indianapolis. Led by San Diego native and opposite hitter Morgan Lewis’ 17 kills, the Mojo bounced back dramatically to secure their third straight home victory, 23-25, 25-22, 19-25, 25-18, 15-12.

San Diego struggled to start the game, but Lewis scored the Mojo’s first point of the match on a quick kill. The Supernovas had their way throughout the first set until it was match point. Despite losing the first set, San Diego found momentum and finished the set, scoring four straight points before the Supernovas closed it out, 25-23.

The Mojo’s momentum carried into the second set, which helped the crowd get involved.

With help from cheering fans, San Diego found their offensive rhythm with five different hitters scoring multiple points. The Mojo won the second set 25-22 before going into the break.

Omaha came out of the locker room strong. San Diego’s passers struggled to keep up with the Supernovas’ 19 third-set kills, leading to a lineup change by head coach Alisha Childress. Outside hitter Maya Tabron went in for fellow outside hitter Shannon Scully and her presence was immediately felt.

Tabron propelled the Mojo to a fourth-set victory with 13 digs, seven kills, and a block. San Diego dominated the fourth set with the offense leading the way once again to push the Supernovas to a fifth set.

The Mojo held a comfortable lead throughout the game’s fifth set, but struggled to close it out. Omaha scored four straight points before outside hitter Grace Loberg scored the game’s final point with her 16th kill of the night.
