SAN DIEGO – SDSU women’s soccer beat the Fresno State Bulldogs 4-1 on Sunday afternoon. The Aztecs (9W-3L-3D, 3-1-2 Pac-12) have not lost since Oct. 1, while the Bulldogs (1-14-3, 0-6-1 Pac-12) are winless in conference play.

Despite the lack of momentum going into Sunday’s game, the Bulldogs scored early. Fresno State scored in the fourth minute and led for most of the first half.

After a few shots on goal by the Aztecs, midfielder KK Chowana-Bandhu tied the match during the 30th minute. With a pass from midfielder Katie Senn in the 37th minute, Chowana-Bandhu earned her second goal of the afternoon. SDSU went into halftime with a one-score lead and continued that momentum into the second half.

The Aztecs began the second half on a high note. Chowana-Bandhu completed her hat trick in the 47th minute with help from midfielder Charlie Gerson and defender Mia Hambro Svendsen. Less than two minutes later, forward Naima Castro gave SDSU a three-goal lead as she found the back of the net.

Hambro Svendsen appeared to score on a header in the 62nd minute. However, Fresno State challenged the call, and it was overturned. The Bulldogs struggled throughout the rest of the match, despite the successful challenge.

As the clock expired, the Aztecs secured their 4-1 victory, and Chowana-Bandhu became the first SDSU freshman since 2000 to complete a hat trick. For the fifth straight game, SDSU outshot their opponent and had more shots on target. They are No. 3 in the conference standings, behind Utah State and Boise State.
