SAN DIEGO — San Diego State volleyball continued its winning streak Saturday afternoon, sweeping Texas State in three sets (25-21, 25-19, 25-19) at Peterson Gym, the first meeting between the two schools in conference play.
The victory marked the Aztecs' seventh consecutive win, their longest winning streak since 2012, when the team won 12 straight matches to close out the regular season. SDSU improved to 12-6 overall and 7-1 in Pac-12 play, maintaining its second-place position in the conference standings.
The winning streak comes after SDSU experienced a similar start to its 2025 campaign, opening the season with six consecutive victories before injuries disrupted the team's momentum. Now competing in its inaugural Pac-12 season, the Aztecs have surpassed last year's opening winning streak as they approach the second half of conference play.
The sweep is the eighth of the season and third in its last four matches.
The Aztecs finished with a season-high .435 hitting percentage, their highest since recording a .438 percentage against Montana in 2012. SDSU totaled 48 kills on 85 attempts with just 11 attacking errors.
Outside hitter Layla Austin led the Aztecs with 15 kills and a .462 hitting percentage, followed by Ella Schabort with 11 kills and Haylee Brown with nine.
Middle blockers Taelyn Bentley and Tessa Schouten also contributed to the team's offensive efficiency, both finishing with a .556 hitting percentage. Bentley recorded six kills and three block assists, while Schouten added five kills and two block assists.
Setter Kendall Mairs led the match with 36 assists, while libero Zara Stewart recorded three service aces, tying her career high.

SDSU opened the match with a competitive first set, trading points with Texas State before establishing an 11-7 lead behind consecutive service aces from Stewart and an Austin kill.
The Aztecs maintained their advantage until the Bobcats mounted a four-point run to tie the score at 17. Texas State capitalized on two SDSU attacking errors, a service ace from Camryn Kimes and a kill from Brooke Bentke.
However, the Aztecs responded with consecutive kills from Brown and Austin to regain the lead. Texas State narrowed the deficit to one point at 21-20, but SDSU closed the frame on a 4-1 run.
The Aztecs carried their momentum into the second set, delivering their most efficient offensive performance of the afternoon. SDSU recorded a .667 hitting percentage with 17 kills on 24 attempts and just one attacking error.

The Aztecs established an early 8-3 advantage, forcing Texas State to call a timeout following a service ace from Nazare Judd. Although the Bobcats cut SDSU's lead to 16-15 midway through the frame, the Aztecs responded with a 9-4 run to close out the set.
SDSU secured the second set, 25-19, taking a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
Schabort led the second-set offense with five kills on six attempts, hitting .833, while Brown contributed four kills on five attempts for a .800 hitting percentage.
Texas State continued to challenge SDSU in the third set, overcoming an early deficit to tie the score twice late in the frame. After the Aztecs established an 11-6 lead, the Bobcats gradually reduced the margin, eventually tying the set at 15 following an Ashley Euston kill.
Austin helped close out the match with two kills in the final stretch, including the match-winning point that secured another 25-19 victory.

The Aztecs will begin the second half of their inaugural Pac-12 schedule on the road against Gonzaga on October 24 at noon in Spokane. SDSU just swept Gonzaga on October 10.
The upcoming match gives the Aztecs an opportunity to extend their winning streak to eight matches as they continue their pursuit of the Pac-12 regular-season title.
With a 7-1 conference record, SDSU remains in second place behind Colorado State, which holds a 7-0 conference record and is the only team who has beaten the Aztecs this season.
