🥎 Game On: Softball

Make that four straight wins for the mighty SDSU Aztecs (21-10), who outscored their opponents 24-3 during the streak. They took all three from New Mexico this weekend. Woot! Fan Craig Lauer shared, “Where else can you spend such a great afternoon—amazing athletes, terrific chants, and the most dedicated fans cheering everyone on!”

The USD Toreros (16-18) bounced back from its loss to SDSU to take two of three from Weber State over the weekend, while the UC San Diego Tritons took all three against UC Riverside to improve to 6-18 on the season.

🎾 Serving It Up: Tennis

At the Hogan Tennis Center, the USD Toreros (6-8) won their West Coast Conference opener vs Portland, 4-1. The Aztecs (9-6) lost one away at Nevada on Friday, but traveled home for the win on Sunday versus Boise State.

💦 Making a Splash: Waterpolo

The 20th-ranked Aztecs came back to beat Azusa Pacific on Friday, 12-11, after going down 4-1 in the first quarter. The 13-9 Aztecs are 3-0 in Mountain West Conference play.

🏃🏾‍♀️Sprinting to Victory: Track & Field

SAN DIEGO — At least ten universities and even more unattached athletes competed at SDSU’s 46th annual Aztec Invitational at the Sports Deck this weekend, and local athletes took home gold!

First, UC San Diego came to compete in the field. Feyi Olukanni won the shotput (14.80 m), while teammate Tamara Aimufia won the long jump (5.93 m). Amari Jenkins won the 400 m hurdles (1:00.29).

The Tritons and Aztecs finished 1-2 respectively in the 4x400-meter relay.

Next, San Diego State won four events while three athletes logged all-time top-10 times in program history.

Aztec Lauren Harper won the 800 m (2:07.54) while Jada Pierre captured the 100 m hurdles (14.09) and Olivia Hicks, 2nd-Team All-American Shaquena Foote, Hannah Waller and Aji Mbye won the 4x100-meter relay (44.29). For good measure, Mbye, Pierre, and Hicks finished 2nd, 3rd, and 4th respectively in the 100 m. Alyssa Alumbres won the triple jump (12.09m).

SDSU’s Samantha Wood recorded the third-fastest mark in program history in the 3,000 m steeplechase (10:45.66), while Lauren Harper (4:22.26) and Sophia Wolf (4:26.25) ran the fifth- and seventh-fastest times in school history in the 1500 m.

Point Loma Nazarene broke two program records: Maddie Reeves ran a program best 16:44.46 in the 5000 m, and the 4x100 m relay of Madison Simmers, Lily Gomez, Angelica Gomes and Blanca Granados broke a 14-year-old record and finished in 47.19 seconds.

🏀 Women’s Hoops Central

Congratulations to the Tritons and Aztecs for winning their respective conference tournaments! The Tritons earned a bid to the NCAA March Madness tournament in their first year of eligibility while the Aztecs returned to the tournament after more than a decade. Although both teams lost their first games in the tourney, we celebrate them for getting there in the first place!

🏐 The Mojo have been oh-so-close for the past two matches, losing a heartbreaking five setter in Atlanta versus the Vibe and losing another close one against the Orlando Valkyries, 3-1, at home on Thursday.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Congratulations to UC San Diego freshman Katherine Kim who earned Second Team All-American honors after finishing seventh in the women's foil competition at the National Collegiate Fencing Championships.
