🏃🏽‍♀️ SDSU Track and Field

🏃🏿‍♀️ EUGENE Ore. - San Diego State junior Shaquena Foote just just just missed the finals of the 400-meters at the 2025 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field. Six hundredths of a second — less time than it takes to blink your eye (true — look it up!) — was the difference between Foote’s semi-final time and that of the last qualifier for the final, Florida State’s Kaelyaah Liburd.

Foote set the SDSU and Mountain West record in May with a time of 50.95 seconds. How fast is Foote’s record time? Consider this – it is faster than two-time 400-meter Olympic gold medalist Monique Henderson’s CIF-San Diego record time of 51.31 — still standing after 25 years. So, yes, Foote is one of THE fastest in the nation. Already can’t wait for next year! Congratulations, Shaquena, on the extraordinary season!

🏄‍♀️ San Clemente, Calif. – Oceanside’s Caitlin Simmers, 2024 World Surfing champion, made it to the semifinals of the Lexus Trestles Pro Championship hosted at Lower Trestles. Hawaii’s Bettylou Sakura Johnson won the event.

A shout out to all the dads out there following Father’s Day! Dads often share their love of competition and sports with their children, and many athletes and fans credit their dads with nurturing their love of the game. See this Gist news for more on the topic.
