SAN DIEGO — The 2026 Oceanview USA Pickleball National Championships return to San Diego on Saturday, bringing more than 2,500 athletes to Barnes Tennis Center in Point Loma for nine days of competition.

Running from Oct. 31 through Nov. 8, the tournament will feature some of the nation's top pickleball players competing for national titles across junior, collegiate, amateur, wheelchair, professional and senior divisions.

This marks the second consecutive year San Diego has hosted the championships, which have been held for nearly two decades.

The professional divisions are among the tournament's most anticipated events, featuring a 32-team single-elimination draw. Seeding will be determined using Association of Pickleball Players (APP) points, with matches consisting of best-of-three games to 11 points. Players must win by at least two points.

Professional competition will take place throughout the second half of the tournament, with the semifinals scheduled for Nov. 7 and championship matches on Nov. 8.

Players to Watch

Among the athletes competing are several established names in women's pickleball, including former national champion Bobbi Oshiro and longtime standout Simone Jardim.

Oshiro, a former Division I tennis player at Boise State, transitioned to professional pickleball after four years of collegiate competition. She currently competes on the APP Tour and in Major League Pickleball.

After winning a national championship in 2024, Oshiro returns to San Diego looking to add another title to her resume.

Jardim also enters the tournament with an extensive history in professional pickleball. Widely considered one of the sport's most accomplished players, Jardim held the world's No. 1 ranking from 2016 to 2020.

Her experience and previous success make her another notable competitor to watch as the tournament progresses.

Hometown Athlete Takes the Court

San Diego-based Wendy Ochoa will also compete in the championships, representing the local pickleball community in the Champions Pro Women's Doubles division alongside partner Taiche Rudee.

Originally from La Rioja, Spain, Ochoa represented the Spanish national team at the 2025 Pickleball World Cup.

Before transitioning to pickleball in 2020, Ochoa competed in badminton and squash at the collegiate level. Since making the switch, she has developed into an accomplished player, earning a DUPR rating above 5.0.

Ochoa also helped the Coachella Valley Scorpions capture the 2025 National Pickleball League championship during a dominant season.

Her appearance gives San Diego fans a hometown athlete to follow as some of the sport's top competitors arrive in Point Loma.

Nationals Return for Another Year

The USA Pickleball National Championships have become one of the sport's premier annual events, bringing together athletes of different ages and skill levels from across the country.

San Diego hosted the tournament for the first time in 2025, generating an estimated $3 million in economic impact for the region. Last year's event also attracted more than 10,000 attendees and featured over 3,900 matches.

The tournament's return provides another opportunity to showcase San Diego as a destination for major sporting events while highlighting pickleball's growing presence in the region.

Beyond professional competition, the championships also offer opportunities for community participation.

On Saturday, Nov. 7, San Diego's Pickleball Collective will partner with JOOLA to host three free women's clinics led by professional players competing in the tournament.

Pickleball Collective founder Meagan Allers will also compete in this year's championships.

With national titles on the line and athletes competing across multiple divisions, the nine-day event brings another major week of pickleball to San Diego.

The tournament concludes Sunday, Nov. 8, with professional championship matches.
