Highlights

  • SDSU and UC San Diego are still sitting pretty atop their conferences, and yes, everyone else grabbed a win too. 🏀

  • Softball wasted zero time bringing the drama. Homers, walk-offs, and a 3–1 weekend for SDSU, highlighted by a statement win over Kentucky. 🥎

  • Point Loma golf basically ran the leaderboard, winning a 13-team tourney with three players finishing in the top four. ⛳️

  • Mojo handled the Fury in four sets and now get a shot at win number three tonight at home. First serve at 7. 🏐

  • Heads up. Today’s trivia answer is hiding in plain sight inside the newsletter.

San Diego Mojo Pro Volleyball

Mojo beat the Fury at home in four 🏐

  • The Mojo earned their second win of the season against the Columbus Fury. Opposite hitter Jovana Brakočević led the way with 17 kills. Read more here.

  • They are going for their second straight win tonight (Monday) at 7 p.m. at SDSU’s Viejas Arena against No. 1 Indy Ignite. Get tickets. 🏐

San Diego State

SDSU drops to Grand Canyon for first conference loss

  • SDSU’s women’s basketball experienced their first conference loss against Grand Canyon, 57-44, but quickly responded with a blowout win against San Jose State, 81-52. 🏀

  • Takeaway. A loss may ease some pressure now that they no longer have conference-record perfection in sight. The Aztecs (18-4, 12-1 MW) remain in first place in the Mountain West standings.

SDSU Tennis

  • San Diego State’s women’s tennis swept their cross-town rival UC San Diego for the second match win of the season. 🎾

SDSU Softball

  • The Aztecs opened their season with four games in two days and won three of them in the most dramatic way possible: walk-offs. Read more here.

  • Jade Ignacio (El Camino High, Oceanside) earned Mountain West Player of the Week honors after recording a hit in all four games and putting up elite numbers: a .636 batting average and a 1.727 OPS. 🥎

University of San Diego

USD Softball goes 3-2 at the Norcal Kickoff tournament

  • USD Softball went 3-2 on the road at the NorCal Kickoff tournament, picking up two wins over Cal Poly and one over Colorado State. Read more here. 🥎

USD Basketball

  • The Toreros took a tough loss from Washington State, 80-76, on Thursday, and bounced back to cruise past Seattle 71-54 on Saturday.

  • And, come on! 31- and 20-point performances from freshman Olivia Owens? Crazy good. Read more here. 🏀

USD Tennis

  • USD dropped their match on Saturday against Arizona State, 6-1. Freshman Maria Shmakova delivered USD’s lone victory to improve to 4–1. 🎾

Point Loma Nazarene

Point Loma basketball is back to winning

  • The Sea Lions defeated the Menlo Oaks 78-62 on Thursday. Izzy Navarro entered the top 10 for steals and assists in a single season for program history. 🏀

Takeaway: PLNU is currently tied for second in the PacWest conference, with tight competition between top contenders.

PLNU Golf

  • Point Loma’s womens golf team won the 13-team LA Spring Kickoff, while the Sea Lions Allie Nguyen took home the individual trophy. They also swept the PacWest’s weekly golf awards. ⛳️

UC San Diego

UC San Diego basketball takes down Hawai’i

UC San Diego Basketball

  • UC San Diego’s Makayla Rose broke a single-game program record for steals (9) against the Rainbow Wahine on Saturday to ignite a real celebration on National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Read more here. 🏀

  • Takeaway: Currently No. 1 in the Big West, UC San Diego extended their win streak to five.

UC San Diego Softball

  • The Tritons went 4-1 to open their season, the team’s best start in Division I. Let’s go! 🥎

UC San Diego Water Polo

  • Water polo went 1–4 against top competition at the Triton Invitational. They opened strong on Friday with a 12–11 win over No. 14 UC Davis, but dropped four later in the weekend. 🤽‍♀️

  • Takeaway: The Tritons proved they can battle with elite competition, but late-game execution will be key after dropping a couple of tight matchups.
