After a narrow 1-0 loss to Gotham FC, Wave FC returns home to Snapdragon Stadium on Friday looking to get back on track against the Denver Summit.
The Wave enter the match in fourth place in the NWSL standings with 32 points and a 10W-7L-2D record. San Diego has gone 1-3-1 over its last five matches, with its lone win coming against the Washington Spirit, as the team looks to regain consistency.
Denver enters Friday in 10th place with 23 points and a 6W-7L-5D record. The Summit have gone 2-2-1 over their last five matches and will look to build on Saturday’s win over third-place Utah Royals as they continue their push up the standings.
Janine Sonis has been one of Denver's biggest offensive threats this season, leading the team with eight goals and three assists. Yazmeen Ryan has also provided a dangerous attacking presence, giving the Summit another player capable of creating chances and putting pressure on opposing defenses.
San Diego will look to regain its attacking rhythm after being held scoreless by Gotham. The Wave have consistently generated chances throughout the season and currently lead the NWSL with 114 shots on target. Trinity Byars, Lia Godfrey and Melanie Barcenas will be among the players San Diego relies on to create opportunities in the final third.

The Wave will also once again monitor the status of Kimmi Ascanio, who was forced to leave the loss to Gotham in the first half after previously returning from an injury against Washington. Her availability could affect San Diego's lineup heading into Friday’s match.
This season, the Wave have been better away (6W-2L-2D) than at home (4W-5L-0D). They’ll need to reverse that trend if they want to regain momentum and stay in the hunt for the Shield.
Gotham FC has begun to pull away with 40 points, Washington sits second with 36, and five teams (Utah, San Diego, Portland, Kansas City and North Carolina) are bunched between 33 and 30. Every point is becoming increasingly important, so San Diego will need to convert their chances and find the back of the net after being held scoreless last week.
