TRENDING TODAY:

San Diego Wave FC hosts the Utah Royals tonight, Friday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m. PT at Snapdragon Stadium. It is the first game of the 2026 NWSL playoffs, and the NWSL quarterfinal streams live on Prime Video.

This is a big night for both clubs. The Wave are the No. 2 seed after a club record 58 points. They come in unbeaten in seven straight games, the longest run in team history.

San Diego also has never lost to Utah. The Wave are 6 and 0 all time against the Royals, including a 2 to 1 road win in March and a 4 to 2 win at home in August.

For Utah, the No. 7 seed, just being here is history. This is the first playoff trip in club history, and the Royals are still looking for their first win over San Diego.

Keep an eye on Lia Godfrey. The rookie played in all 30 regular season games, and her first pro goal came against Utah back in March. Teenager Melanie Barcenas added seven goals this year, and Trinity Byars led the team with 11.

The Wave are still chasing their first NWSL title. San Diego fans have shown up for big playoff nights before, including a league record 32,262 fans for the 2023 semifinal.

The rest of the NWSL quarterfinals follow this weekend. Kansas City hosts Angel City on Saturday. Gotham hosts Seattle and Washington hosts Portland on Sunday.

What's next: A win sends the Wave to the NWSL semifinals on Nov. 14 or 15 against the Washington or Portland winner. The 2026 NWSL Championship is Saturday, Nov. 21, at Audi Field in Washington, D.C.
