TRENDING TODAY:
WNBA Finals Game 7 viewership reached 3.3 million, making the Golden State Valkyries win over the Atlanta Dream the most watched WNBA playoff game ever. The game aired Saturday, Oct. 31, on USA Network, CNBC and Peacock, based on preliminary numbers released Tuesday.
The whole series set a record, too. The seven games averaged 1.88 million viewers, the most for any WNBA Finals. The old mark was 1.5 million, set by the Liberty and Lynx in 2024.
Why does it matter? This was the first WNBA Finals played as a seven game series, and fans stayed with it to the very end. The biggest audience showed up for the last game. That is the kind of number that grabs the attention of TV partners and sponsors.
It also happened without a longtime powerhouse on the floor. The Valkyries are only in their second season. The Dream were chasing their first title, too.
For Gabby Williams, Game 7 was the night of her career. She led Golden State with 30 points and was named WNBA Finals MVP. She did it on the Valkyries home floor at Chase Center in San Francisco, giving the Bay Area its first WNBA championship.
For Atlanta, the loss stings. But the Dream pushed the series as far as it could go, and millions of new fans watched them do it.
What's next: The WNBA Draft Lottery is Sunday, Nov. 15, on ESPN. Houston and Toronto are tied for the best odds at the No. 1 pick. The league is also searching for a new commissioner, since Cathy Engelbert is retiring at the end of the year.
