UC San Diego

UC San Diego basketball wins two and takes the regular season title

  • The Tritons earned their first-ever regular season title after defeating Fullerton and UC Santa Barbara this past week. With the win over Santa Barbara, UC San Diego became co-champions of the Big West’s regular season.

  • Takeaway: UC San Diego is seeded No. 2 for the Big West championships starting March 11.

San Diego State

Aztecs secure All-Mountain West Awards

Nala Williams. San Diego State

Coach Stacie Terry-Hutson. San Diego State

  • Nala Williams was named the Mountain West Player of the Year, to the All-Mountain West Team and to the All-Defensive Team. Kaelyn Hamilton earned the Sixth Player of the Year award and Naomi Panganiban was named to the All-Mountain West Team. Head coach Stacie Terry-Hutson won Coach of the Year, leading the Aztecs to a Mountain West record 19 wins and the team’s first regular-season championship in more than a decade. 

  • After handily defeating Air Force to cap off a historic 19-1 regular season on Tuesday, the No. 1 Aztecs then fell to Air Force in the quarterfinals of the Mountain West tournament on Sunday, 83-76. Panganiban had 29 points, the most ever scored in a Mountain West Tournament by an Aztec, six assists and no turnovers. Read more here.

  • Takeaway: The Aztecs now wait to see where they are headed in the postseason.

SDSU Tennis

  • The Aztecs earned their ninth win of the season, taking down Cal Poly 5-2. The win marks the team’s seventh in a row!

SDSU Softball

  • SDSU started strong but couldn’t stop a final-inning comeback from Wisconsin, falling 5-4. Read more here. The team took another loss from Notre Dame but bounced back to take down Princeton, 14-6.

SDSU Waterpolo

  • Make that three straight for the Aztecs after a 19-6 win on Thursday over Azusa Pacific.

University of San Diego

USD Basketball serves up an upset to Saint Mary’s

  • The Toreros won the first round of their conference tournament, upsetting No. 10 Saint Mary’s. Hallie Rhodes dropped 22 points and Kylie Ray finished with 19. Read more about the win here.

  • The team fell to the University of San Francisco in the second round on Friday, not able to take revenge from the close regular-season games.

Point Loma Nazarene

Point Loma loses opener in PacWest tournament

  • The Sea Lions were looking to be the PacWest’s back-to-back champions, but fell in their first game to Azusa Pacific, 70-59. 🏀

  • Takeaway: Despite falling, PLNU is going dancing! The team is seeded No. 7 in the West Regional for the NCAA DII tournament. They will face No. 2 Western Washington.

Point Loma Tennis

  • Tennis took their fourth straight win, this time against Bowling Green, 5-2.

San Diego Mojo Pro Volleyball

Mojo just miss against Vibe 🏐

  • Mojo took a loss from the Atlanta Vibe on Saturday in four sets, 3-1, after the match went back and forth. Read more about it here.
