SAN DIEGO – As the city’s first womens sports bar, One of Us has become a hub for the San Diego sports community. Since its opening in July, the bar has welcomed thousands of sports fans for various sporting events, including the FIBA Women's World Cup, NFL Sundays, San Diego Wave games, and most recently, the WNBA Playoffs.
On Sept. 27, the WNBA Playoffs kicked off with four first-round matchups. The Dallas Wings took on the Golden State Valkyries, the Washington Mystics faced off against the Atlanta Dream, the Las Vegas Aces played the Indiana Fever, and the New York Liberty battled the Minnesota Lynx. One of Us streamed all four games as fans arrived throughout the day to root for their favorite teams to begin the best-of-three first round.

While there isn’t a local WNBA team and the Los Angeles Sparks did not make the playoffs, co-founder Kalani Millsaps noticed that many San Diegans have rallied to support other teams throughout the league.
“It wasn’t a surprise [about] the crowds we’re getting from these other teams,” Millsaps said. Still, she marveled at the fan base across the league.
Locals have come to One of Us to support teams based in cities throughout the country.
“We have a lot of Lynx fans and a lot of Wings fans,” Millsaps said. “A lot of Aces fans, [which] I get because it’s not that far.”
Since those first matchups, Minnesota and Dallas have been eliminated from the playoffs. No. 1 Minnesota was upset by No. 8 New York Liberty 2-0 after coming into the playoffs as heavy favorites. No. 7 Dallas also lost their first-round series to the No. 2 Golden State Valkyries in three games. However, No. 3 Las Vegas beat No. 6 Indiana Fever in three games to advance to the WNBA Semi-Finals. The Dream also knocked out the Mystics in two.
One of Us will continue to stream all of the WNBA Playoff matchups for the San Diego community to enjoy. The first set of semi-final games will take place on Oct. 7, and the bar will open at 4 p.m. The semi-finals are a best-of-five series, so there is plenty of basketball to watch. Alongside the WNBA Semi-Final matchups, One of Us will also be debuting its new fall drink menu on Wednesday.
