Trinity Byars lit up the field with two goals and two assists in Wave FC’s 4-2 triumph over one of the league’s top teams.
USD soccer defeated UC Berkeley with its first power conference win in more than a decade, SDSU came oh-so-close but lost to No. 10 Washington then topped Portland State, while UC San Diego won and drew to continue strong starts all around D1 town. Details below.
And the winner is… Southern California’s Ruby Stringfellow. She won the 2026 Super Girl Surf Pro by a mere 21 hundredths of a point in the finals and at age 14 became the youngest winner ever. Congrats!

Byars comes up big as Wave FC break home winless streak

The Wave took down the Utah Royals, 4-2, to break a three game winless streak at Snapdragon Stadium.
Trinity Byars led the way with two goals and two assists to help the team secure three points for the NWSL standings. Read our recap here.
Super Girl Surf Festival
Surfing returns to Oceanside

The world’s best female surfers returned to Oceanside on Sunday. Starting with 112 surfers from more than ten countries, the finals came down to two Southern Californians: Mia McLeish and Ruby Stringfellow. Stringfellow, only 14 years old, won it all! She is the youngest to ever win the event.

USD defeats California Bears, earns first power conference win in a decade.

USD faced No. 20 UCLA, the Toreros falling 2-0. Goalkeeper Chloe Walls (Francis Parker) had five saves against the nationally ranked team.
The Toreros were back home to host California on Sunday with a huge 1-0 win over the Bears. The win was the first over a Power Conference opponent since 2016. Freshman Mia Teran (Temecula) scored the lone goal of the game, while redshirt sophomore Chloe Walls (Chula Vista) earned her 2nd clean sheet of the season.
The Toreros start conference play on September 26 against Santa Clara.
San Diego State
Aztecs win one lose one

In a matchup against No. 10 Washington, the Aztecs fell 1-0 in a closely contested match. The Aztecs had more shots (11) than the Huskies (10), and each team had five shots on goal.
SDSU defeated Portland State on Sunday 1-0 off a goal from senior transfer Kenny Moore. Kailey Carlen (Chula Vista) earned a clean sheet in goal.
UC San Diego
Tritons undefeated this week

The Tritons faced UNLV for the first away game for the season, taking down the Rebels 2-1.
The team also played at Northern Arizona on Sunday, ending in a 0-0 draw.
